SQUADS ABROAD

  • About SQUADS ABROAD
Welcome to the ENROLLMENT and DONATION pages for SQUADS ABROAD on the Empowered.org platform!

Squads Abroad empowers student organizations around the world to improve health and educational outcomes. Our Squads model matches adult-led school groups with community driven sustainable initiatives. Each Squad chooses a defined focus area, volunteer partner organization, and an enrichment project that our groups contribute towards and complete during their trip. Our volunteers provide people-to-people educational support as well as the tangible accomplishment of a much needed small construction project. Squads stay at our safe and private home-base accommodations and are guided by our professional staff from the native country. Squad programs also include fun and engaging cultural activities which provide a deeper cultural context and understanding.

Squads Abroad is a program of Global Brigades, a 501c3 international non-profit that uniquely implements a holistic model to meet community’s health and economic goals. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve the quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local culture.

Andrew P. Hill High School-Medical Magnet Program Global Health Squads

Andrew P. Hill High School-Medical Magnet Program aims to improve health care access and sanitation infrastructure for children in under resourced communities abroad. Our Squad travels abroad to conduct mobile health clinics for children that include primary health care and vision and dental screenings. We also learn about and address some of the systemic issues behind preventable diseases in the community by implementing health workshops and building handwashing stations alongside local students. Each of our student volunteers has a donation goal to help cover logistical expenses while abroad such as transport, local staff, meals, insurance, accommodations, but most important, the year-round follow-up to our project by local staff to ensure the sustainability over time. We need your help to reach our goals! Consider donating or joining our next Squad! We are a chapter of Squads Abroad, a 501c3 non-profit working to improve health, education and economic outcomes in the developing world with our parent organization Global Brigades.
