SQUADS ABROAD

  • About SQUADS ABROAD
Welcome to the ENROLLMENT and DONATION pages for SQUADS ABROAD on the Empowered.org platform!

Squads Abroad empowers student organizations around the world to improve health and educational outcomes. Our Squads model matches adult-led school groups with community driven sustainable initiatives. Each Squad chooses a defined focus area, volunteer partner organization, and an enrichment project that our groups contribute towards and complete during their trip. Our volunteers provide people-to-people educational support as well as the tangible accomplishment of a much needed small construction project. Squads stay at our safe and private home-base accommodations and are guided by our professional staff from the native country. Squad programs also include fun and engaging cultural activities which provide a deeper cultural context and understanding.

Squads Abroad is a program of Global Brigades, a 501c3 international non-profit that uniquely implements a holistic model to meet community’s health and economic goals. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve the quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local culture.

Affton High School Global Health Squads

Affton High School aims to improve health care access and sanitation infrastructure for children in under resourced communities abroad. Our Squad travels abroad to conduct mobile health clinics for children that include primary health care and vision and dental screenings. We also learn about and address some of the systemic issues behind preventable diseases in the community by implementing health workshops and building handwashing stations alongside local students. Each of our student volunteers has a donation goal to help cover logistical expenses while abroad such as transport, local staff, meals, insurance, accommodations, but most important, the year-round follow-up to our project by local staff to ensure the sustainability over time. We need your help to reach our goals! Consider donating or joining our next Squad! Ambassador Trip for Educators to Costa Rica, February 6-9, 2019

Our Ambassador Trip to Costa Rica from February 6-10 is an opportunity for educators to experience our program model in-country. Our cohort of Ambassadors will spend two full days (4 days including travel days) in Costa Rica with Squads Abroad Director Erik Werner and Country Director Franklin Torres visiting various volunteer sites and partners to get a sense of the projects and types of volunteering your students would be doing. The group will be staying at our home-base lodging accommodations and all meals, transport, flights, and activity fees during the advertised program are included. In addition to site visits and educational workshops the group will also have a lot of fun participating in the various cultural activities and sightseeing activities available to our school groups.
