    The Anchorage High School- Global Health Squad is traveling to India from May 31-June 16, 2018. The group is led by AHS teachers Kaity Williamson and Vani Pallai. The group will stay at our private and safe home-base accommodations Dharamsala where our local professional staff provide all transportation, food, lodging, and activities. The group will be matched with a local school, daycare, or orphanage where they will spend each weekday morning completing valuable small construction projects and staff support. Each afternoon the group will embark on fun and engaging guided cultural and adventure activities in the area. On the weekends the group will travel to Taj Mahal and the Golden Triangle on the first weekend and Amritsar and the Golden Temple on the following weekend.

Volunteer Activity Description
VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION
Dharamkot Primary School, Dharamsala, India

The Dharamkot Primary School is where the native children of the region study and receive their education. Since the opening, the school and nearby communities have been mainly affected by monsoon related diseases. Because of climate change, there is dry weather currently in Dharamsala when normally this month would bring snow. This school has around 50 students enrollments each given year coming from up to 35 native families. The immediate surrounding village community is home to an estimated 25 families in this hilly slope.

PROPOSED PROJECTS:
- Construct a hand-washing station for students and faculty to utilize
- Educate the students on the importance of hygiene, and how to properly wash one’s hands
- With recent changes in their own environment, educate students on various environmental issues and the importance behind them
