About Us

This will be the 9th year that SFP Seattle has been the lead organizer for the MLK Day/Season of Service in Seattle/King County. Our mission is to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King by recruiting volunteers from diverse backgrounds to help organizations that help at risk youth and to involve those youth in community service. Our goals are to expand MLK Season of Service each year so that more volunteers commit to ongoing volunteer opportunities during MLK Season of Service and throughout the year.

Upcoming Initiatives

MLK Day of Service at Panther Lake

Volunteers and needed to help beautify this park and keep it clean and sustainable. Please sign up and help this effort to better our community! Saturday, January 18th - Panther Lake, City of Federal Way, 10am-2pm, max of 60 volunteers Join EarthCorps and the City of Federal Way as we kick off our MLK weekend of service! Panther Lake was originally the homestead of Washington States' first black political appointee, John N. Conna. Conna was an early fighter for equality at the turn of the century. Panther Lake Open Space is a 78.72 acre greenspace which serves as wonderful habitat with a year-round body of water and forested walking trails. Wetland areas such as Panther Lake provide essential wildlife habitat and attractive places for people to relax, stroll and learn about rich natural ecosystems. Volunteers should expect to remove invasive plants and perform restoration site maintenance in an effort to restore this urban forest. 500 SW Campus Dr, Federal Way, WA, 98003

MLK Day of Service at Pigeon Point Park

MLK Day of Service at Terminal 105 Park

Volunteers and needed to help beautify this park and keep it clean and sustainable. Please sign up and help this effort to better our community! Join EarthCorps and the Port of Seattle in celebrating the legacy of service left by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr at this restoration event. Terminal 105 restoration construction was completed in 1995; prior to that, the narrow property was used as driveway and parking lot. Now it is a Port of Seattle public access site with picnic tables, a hand boat launch, and a small natural area. Environmental stewardship activities began in 2000. EarthCorps is working with the Port of Seattle to remove additional invasive weeds along the main river channel and replace them with native plants. 4032 W Marginal Way SW, Seattle, 98106 - just north of SW Dakota St.

MLK Day of Service at Cheasty Greenspace

Volunteers and needed to help beautify this park and keep it clean and sustainable. Please sign up and help this effort to better our community! Join EarthCorps, the Green Seattle Partnership, Service for Peace, University of Washington, and Seattle Parks and Recreation as we continue to restore this 43 acre greenspace. MLK Day of Service participants should expect to learn a brief history of Cheasty Greenspace and an overview of Seattle's urban forests. Join thousands of volunteers nationwide in making MLK Day "a day ON, not a day OFF!" EarthCorps staff will discuss Dr King's legacy, forest structure, native vs. non-native plant species, environmental restoration and safety. The service project includes the removal of English ivy, a non-native aggressive plant species that threatens the diversity of our urban forests. Work may include planting native trees and shrubs, and restoration maintenance such as weeding, wood chip application and sheet mulching. Volunteers may bring a snack to enjoy during a mid-day break. Following the event, volunteers are invited to attend an outdoor celebration at the registration area where pizza will be served. 4513 Cheasty Blvd S, Seattle WA, 98108
