Business Brigades at University of Maryland Baltimore County

University of Maryland Baltimore County is a chapter of Global Business Brigades, an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. We work alongside promising entrepreneurs and experienced year-round staff to create financial opportunities in remote, rural, and under resourced areas of Honduras and Ghana. We work with communities to build community-owned banks to provide access to loans, savings accounts and financial literacy for community members. Volunteers assist in consulting micro-enterprises, assessing loan capacity payments and providing financial literacy workshops to families. nnIn conjunction with our Business Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Adom Grace Nyarkoh: Ghana Special Referral

Adom was first found at a bus stop in the Central Region completely abandoned and almost starving to death. Interns in the summer of 2012 immediately took her to Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where she was provided with life-saving care. Thank you to everyone who helped fund that care for Adom. When we first met Adom, she weighed no more than 40 pounds, yet was well over 4 feet tall. Additionally, she barely had use of her arms and was almost too weak to stand. With the amazing care doctors provided to her, she was nursed back to health and can now feed herself, walk on her own, and interact with those around her. She even remembers the faces of people she has met multiple times! Grace has made huge strides and is such an amazing, beautiful little girl. You can make a direct impact in Adom's life by contributing to the fundraising campaigns housed within this page.

Referral Patient Campaigns: Honduras

The Patient Referral program promotes sustainability of Global Brigades programs by ensuring that our patients receive necessary care at all times. This program assists with necessary medical care that falls outside the scope of brigades and facilitates the entire process of administering this care.
