Passionate About:

Thank you for checking out my page! I am so grateful for the opportunity to join SFSU Global Brigade’s mission to deliver sustainable healthcare to Nicaragua this summer!

Here’s a little bit about me:
I was a psychology major in college. I’ve always been fascinated with people - how we develop, the nature-vs-nurture debate, and just the nature of human consciousness. Out of curiosity, I took a class called “Life in Healthcare” during my last quarter of college, which immediately sparked my interest in the field. Upon graduating college, I became a scribe at an ER in Salinas, which was my first real glimpse into medicine. I worked closely with physicians, nurses, and the ER staff and quickly fell in love with science and medicine - how known physiological processes going awry can manifest into symptoms; and how we use the predictability of the human body to determine treatment, no matter how unpredictable a patient may be. I started taking science courses at the local community college to make sense of my experiences as a scribe and was able to apply what I was learning in my classes to real life scenarios. I really enjoy the intricate puzzles of medicine.

And beyond the “medicine” side of healthcare, I got to see the importance patient care. Every patient’s narrative matters in medicine so as a scribe, I practiced the skill of listening. Through my interactions with patients and even my own life experiences, I recognize that poor health extends well beyond the individual. And I understand the importance of education and knowledge as a form of treatment and preventative medicine--something that extends across all cultures.

That’s why I am so grateful for this opportunity to work alongside my premed peers and working healthcare professionals to set up clinics in Nicaragua and to equip the community with care and skills to make good health and well-being sustainable. I look forward to immersing myself into the community and building meaningful relationships.
