Passionate About:

Hi! I'm Monica and I am part of a non-profit organization called Global Brigades. Global Brigades is a non-profit organization which travels to underdeveloped communities to empower them to become self-sustainable. Two years ago I had the experience of a lifetime and I went to Nicaragua. Over just nine days our brigade served a thousand patients in our clinic working with in-country physicians, built sustainable homes to prevent chronic illnesses and gave my heart to serve those people with smiles in return. Experiencing Nicaragua in such a humbling way and developing intimate short relationships within their community has made me want to return to an underdeveloped country and serve them any way I can. I am once again, a volunteer, for the Global Brigades chapter at San Francisco State University and I plan to use these experiences I have with Global Brigades to gain experience interacting with patients, shadowing physicians, and overall, give my efforts and love to help other people.

This summer, Global Brigades at San Francisco State University is going to Panama! I very excited to help people feel better in our clinical days and build basic utilities for the people in Panama so that they can have a healthy home. I am excited to be working with the other brigaders that are accompanying me who are passionate in helping creating a better world. I would appreciate any donation on behalf of supporting my passion towards making people smile, feel better, addressing and acting on community needs, and creating a more loving world.

Volunteer Activity Message

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
