Passionate About:

Hey friends and family! As some of you may know, I was recently given the opportunity to travel to Panama this winter through an organization called Global Medical Brigades. Hundreds of college students such as myself applied for this program and only 45 were accepted. I am so honored to be one of the 45 chosen to embark on this humbling experience.

Global Medical Brigades is the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Their mission is to empower volunteers and under-resourced communities to resolve global health and economic disparities. In doing so, this organization travels to several underdeveloped countries around the world to provide the necessary healthcare and economic needs to those who do not have any means of access. Recent countries Global Medical Brigades have visited include Nicaragua, Honduras, and Ghana.

This winter, the University of Texas at Austin Chapter will be traveling to Panama from January 3-9. Me and 44 other UT students will be given the opportunity to work with doctors, dentists, and pharmacists from around the world. We will assist in administering healthcare needs to those living in rural areas where access to healthcare is not tangible.

This is where you guys come in! As you all are well aware, traveling to a foreign country comes with expenses. All I'm asking is for each one of you to donate to this cause. No specific amount is required. Donations will go towards airfare and medical supplies, so anything will help! I am so blessed to not only be given the opportunity to have hands on medical experience, but to be able to travel and immerse myself in a completely different culture. Thank you all so much, and please donate!

Volunteer Activity Message

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
