About Cafe Cultura
Café Cultura promotes unity and healing among Indigenous peoples through creative expression while empowering youth to find their voice, reclaim oral and written traditions, and become leaders in their communities. We organize an award-winning monthly open mic night, conduct spoken word/poetry workshops for youth, and perform at community events throughout the state. We showcase the work of Chicana/o, Native American, Latina/o and other underserved communities while providing a safe space for young people from throughout the city to speak their truths, build community, and learn about issues affecting our communities.

March 10th National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day & March 20th National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day .... Open Mic, free HIV testing, free food, vendors, door prizes, & community! VOLUNTEERS PLEASE ARRIVE AT 4:30pm :-) .... Note: Make sure to come early to sign up and get a good seat. As always, we welcome anybody who is willing to help in the organization of the event. WHEN: 2nd Fri. of every month (March 9th, April 13th) --->6:30pm to 10:00pm WHERE: Denver Indian Center (4407 Morrison Rd) WHAT: All ages Open Mic Night Come express yourself creatively or just chill with your people $3 donation (nobody turned away)......Everyone is welcome! -March Features: --->April Chavez (Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM...Dine\\\'/Kewa Pueblo): April Kateri Chavez proudly represents the Diné Nation and the Pueblo of Santo Domingo. She has been featured in HBO’s Russell Simmons’ Brave New Voices series, and served as a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. Embassy in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania where she performed poetry, taught writing workshops, and shared her Native culture. Based in Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM, she currently attends Stanford University, with plans of attending law school upon graduation. She represents Native Texan roots as a dynamic vocalist bringing her unique Chicana/Native Hip Hop Soul sound. She has been featured in the Source Magazine, BET, Mun2 and in the books Graffiti Women, Chicano Rap, on the covers of La Nueva Raza Newspaper & Houston’s La Vibra Magazine. She is currently featured in Graffiti Verite 11, Don\\\'t Believe Da Noize-Voices from the Underground. Often the only female performer on all male line-ups, she has become a positive force in hip-hop covering social issues and calling for change. She focuses on maintaining the Indigenous traditions of Texas and has re-established her family for 3 generations back into the ceremonies.
