Washington State University Veterinary Outreach trip to Peru, May 2020

Usha's Message

Hello!

My name is Usha Caldwell and I am currently a Freshman at Washington State University. I am majoring in animal sciences and was told about this program through class. This trip is primarily focused on veterinary care and will help me gain experience working with animals and people in a clinic environment. I haven't had much experience with veterinary care and I really want to explore my passions while also being able to continue to shape my career. This trip also forces me to step out of my comfort zone and provides an experience that doesn't just pertain to animals, but to the culture and people of Peru as well. I believe that this trip will help me become a more knowledgable and overall well-roudned person.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you are able to donate and help me to alleviate the costs I would greatly appreciate it! Either way, your support means everything to me! :)

Thanks again,

-Usha

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the WSU chapter as they lead a Veterinary Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming Summer! Volunteers will work in mobile clinics, where they will have the opportunity to take patient history, basic vital signs, shadow veterinarians, learn about the importance of different animals in locals lives and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at WSU will be opening up mobile veterinary clinics for local communities as well as assisting at local animal care facilities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of February 10 - 14
