Surbhi's Message

Hi friends and family,
Those that know me, know that I am extremely passionate about medicine and patient care. I am an intern at a hospital that allows me to get patient care experience. With my 2.5 years of experience there, I am finally able to give myself to go on a trip to live my dreams. I will be traveling to Dominican Republic with students that are aspiring nurses, PAs, physicians, surgeons, etc.

To make this dream come true for me, I NEED YOUR SUPPORT! I would really appreciate it if you can take the time to donate anything towards this trip. The starting point is $1895 for this trip not including airfare which will most likely cost me about $3000. I would REALLY appreciate any support that you guys can help me with :)

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the UCI chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to the Dominican Republic this upcoming summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at UCI will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in the Dominican Republic.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2018, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2019. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of April 8.
