Stony Brook University Medical Internship to Panama, March 2023

Troy's Message

Hi! I'm a first-year undergraduate student at Stony Brook University. I'm currently majoring in biology with aspirations to attend medical school. My academic interests include calculus and the life sciences---I particularly enjoy genetics and molecular biology. On this trip, we will educate local children in Panama about the importance of personal health and hygiene and provide for the citizens of the local community through a mobile health clinic. We will spend one day learning about Panama's culture, one day educating Panama's children, and three days assisting in the clinic. I would appreciate your help in funding this invaluable opportunity!

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Stony Brook University chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Panama this upcoming Spring! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at Stony Brook University will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in PANAMA.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2022! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
