UTK Medical Outreach trip to Peru, December 2019

Dear NAME,

Volunteers Around the World (VAW) is a humanitarian organization devoted to improving the standard of living for those that live in some of the most poverty-stricken communities of the world. Our focus is to provide communities with increased access to medical and dental treatment and more educational opportunities. The work of Volunteers Around the World is accomplished by volunteers who donate their time and energy to VAW Outreach projects, sponsors who donate funds and supplies to support VAW Outreach projects and local health professionals and community members who collaborate with VAW to make the Outreach projects a reality in their communities.

Many people in Peru do not have access to healthcare and education due to the scarcity of health institutions and schools, lack of trained professionals and inaccessibility to transportation and funds. This winter, I will work to help alleviate some of these healthcare concerns in the Medical Outreach trip to Peru I have joined with VAW at the University of Tennessee. We will set up mobile clinics and lead an education day.

In order to make this trip happen, I need your help! The donation that you provide will be used to help fund the necessary costs to treat the patients in Peru. These costs include hiring local health professionals, purchasing medications and medical supplies and the transportation and lodging of volunteers while in-country.

I would greatly appreciate any donations. Checks should be made payable to “Volunteers Around the World” and mailed to Volunteers Around the World at 8595 Pelham Rd, Suite 400 #301, Greenville, SC 29615 in the enclosed envelope. Volunteer Activity Description

Join UTK chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming Winter! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at UTK will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2018, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2019. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of [November 4-8]
