Hello! My name is Melissa Gomez and I am a Nursing major at Mount Saint Mary's University. I am so blessed and excited to be apart of UC Irvine's Medical Outreach trip to the Dominican Republic in June 2019!

This kind of opportunity will provide me, an aspiring nurse, with unforgettable medical knowledge and experience. I have always wanted to help patients in medically underserved communities that regularly lack access to healthcare and serve wherever it is needed. If you are able to donate any amount or even share this cause or link, it would help to make this trip possible. It would not only mean a lot to me but to the communities that we will be working alongside.

"Medical Outreach provides volunteers with an opportunity to work first hand with experienced local doctors and nurses. While in the country, volunteers will assist the doctors, perform triage, distribute medications, teach classes on hygiene, nutrition, and first aid. All volunteer activities are under the direct supervision of a licensed Physician. This is an intensive internship, valuable to future nurses, future physicians and other future healthcare providers as well as those interested in seeing what it is like to work in a developing country. The internship is focused on giving volunteers a variety of experiences, deepening their understanding of the medical field, and broadening their global view."

Our team will be traveling to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic from June 15-28th. We will provide care to local patients while gaining new approaches and experiences that will help us in our future careers.
