Because of my experiences—both difficult and rewarding—, I have developed an appreciation and desire to help those around me by pursuing a career in orthodontics. Through my encounters, I hope to be a source of comfort for my patients. From my experience in the orthodontics chair, I have learned the importance of voicing my needs and options even when it may feel challenging. In following my desire to be an orthodontist I hope to be able to anticipate my patient's needs and allow them to feel not only heard but understood because I once faced each difficulty they may encounter. This trip to Peru will be one of my first steps in my journey to and through dental school. Through studying abroad previously I have seen the ways in which culture and religion can shape a person in such a postive way. Through VAW and their values I know have the opportunity to help people that are less fortunate than be in such an amazing and impactful way as a dental intern!
