Hello! First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this statement. As a student at UCLA, I have had several eye-opening experiences that have ignited my passion for helping others. Through various volunteering organizations I have been able to assist the homeless community of Downtown, Los Angeles, a community in Tijuana, Mexico, and also children battling chronic diseases at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center by providing them with basic health needs. This summer I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help a rural community in Jarabacoa (Dominican Republic) who is in need of medical care. This program is two weeks long, and as a volunteer I will be shadowing local physicians, teaching the community how to live a healthier life, operating a pharmacy, and immersing myself in the culture. To be able to help others, however, I must raise $2,500, which will be used to pay for travel and living expenses.
