Our team (Ohio State Students) will be traveling on a dental outreach to the Dominican Republic through an organization called Volunteers Around the World. Volunteers Around the World (VAW) is a national organization devoted to improving the standard of living for those that live in some of the most poverty stricken communities of the world. Our focus is to provide communities with access to dental and health education. We will be setting up mobile dental clinics along with local dentists in the Jarabacoa region. At clinics, we will have the opportunity to take vitals, as well as shadow and assist dentists during their patient consultations, including learning about extractions, x-rays, cleanings and fillings. In addition to our clinic days, we also have one education day in a local school in which we will teach children about proper nutrition and dental hygiene.
