Augusta Medical Outreach trip to Peru, June 2018

Junsoo's Message

Hello! My name is Junsoo Bae, a sophomore currently enrolled at Augusta University as a Cellular and Molecular Biology major. I was recently given an opportunity to be a part of Volunteers Around the World, a humanitarian organization that is dedicated to help those in developing countries by providing medical treatment, clean water, medication and education on health. Through this, a group of students and I will be traveling to Cuzco, Peru to volunteer at a clinic, shadow physicians and visit a local school to educate on health. This trip would provide clinical skills and experience as well as help build leadership skills. This trip would be an amazing experience and learning opportunity for me, however, it requires a lot of fundraising. Please help me attain my fundraising goal to be able to go on this volunteer trip. Any amount is appreciated, every cent counts.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Augusta chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming Summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at Augusta will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2017, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2018. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of March 12-16
