Vanderbilt Medical Internship to Guatemala, Marzo 2025

Sierra's Message

I am excited to join VAW Global Health Alliances on a life-changing medical outreach trip to Lake Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala! This trip will help bring sustainable healthcare to underserved communities by establishing primary care clinics.

During the trip, I will take part in:

Patient intake & vitals
Shadowing local physicians
Distributing medications
Teaching public health lessons to local children

This is an incredible opportunity for me and others to earn clinical hours, develop leadership skills, and build lasting relationships with Guatemalan healthcare professionals. Beyond the work, we’ll also have the chance to explore the beauty and culture of San Pedro La Laguna and other lake towns.

Your donation will help cover essential expenses like travel, supplies, and outreach materials. Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us one step closer to delivering much-needed healthcare and education to our communities.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Vanderbilt chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Guatemala this upcoming Spring! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW Global at Vanderbilt will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Guatemala.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
