Shauntay's Message

Greetings and humble salutations family and friends. My name is Shauntay McGIothin and I am currently a junior at the University of Central Florida, majoring in Health Sciences Pre- clinical with aspiration of becoming a Physician Assistant. I am diligent hard working honor student that has plans to give back to my community. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that this December I have been given the opportunity to go on a service- learning trip in the Dominican Republic. The trip will take place December 27th-January 6th 2019. I would greatly appreciate any donations that you put forward.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the UCF chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC this upcoming WINTER! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW at UCF will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2018, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2019. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of October 18-25.
