Alaska (AKVAW) Medical Outreach trip to Peru, May 2017

Sarah's Message

Hello! My name is Sarah Cosgrave and recently I have been given this amazing opportunity to volunteer to the poor. I am fundraising money to volunteer my time to provide free aid to people living in poverty-stricken communities in Peru for two weeks. Your donations will provide medicine and supplies to the poor communities of Peru, and also help mitigate the costs to participate in this outreach program. This opportunity means so much to me because I am on my way to becoming a nurse, and in the near future, I want to volunteer my time around the world, to the less fortunate. This amazing opportunity will also allow me to help the poor in Peru, who are in desperate need of medical and educational help. If you can help me in any way to volunteer my time in Peru, I would be so grateful and thankful! Thank you all so much!

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the AKVAW chapter as the lead a Medical Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW at AKVAW will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2016, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2017. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
