Approximately 70% of the world is water. This is a fact known by many, but what is surprising is how elusive something this great can be. For my entire childhood, I have observed the methods people will go through to obtain one of the most basic of human needs, water. I grew up in the third world nation of Bangladesh, and witnessed first-hand the poor quality of water and sanitation levels available in such poor nations. The images of my childhood still haunt my daily thoughts as I long for a method to not only give the thirsty water once, but to provide them with a continual source of clean water throughout their lifetime. Global Brigades would be the ideal program to work with in order to achieve my hopes. Its background in volunteering is awe-inspiring, and I only wish to contribute to its great name and ideology. I greatly appreciate the organized and precise nature of the program, which would help the overall success at creating a brigade at the University of Rochester. Furthermore, the ability to access and help other brigades from the website provides an excellent method for people who can not travel to still help out. Mostly, I find irresistible the sense of community emanated throughout the course of this program.
