Passionate About:

Hello! My name is Namie and I'm currently the Language Chair for VATW at The University of Alabama. I'm thrilled for the experiences we're providing this upcoming year in connecting with communities overseas through culture, language, and healthcare! This soft diplomacy provides us with the skills needed to reduce cross-cultural barriers and expand one's worldview. My passions rely heavily on how I can utilize my resources to help those around me. Being so, in the present moment I serve as a volunteer in the COVID-19 Unit at DCH Regional Hospital, translate at a local Tuscaloosa clinic, and am part of a research group on campus to engineer the next generation of nanoparticle cyclosporine A therapy in Lupus. If you would like to join me in making a difference in Panama communities, please consider reading our initiative page and donating to our cause...every donation counts!

University of Alabama Medical Internship to Panama, May 2022

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of Alabama chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Panama this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at University of Alabama will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Panama.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of [put week that your team’s tickets will be purchased, eg, January 7-21]
