Bronx Medical Outreach trip to Cambodia, January 2019.

Michelle's Message

Hi friends & family!  

This upcoming winter, I will be embarking on a journey to Siem Reap, Cambodia with a group called Volunteers Around the World. Our club consists of enthusiastic students striving to provide rural communities in a developing country with access to medical treatment, medication, and nutritional/health education.

As an aspiring physician interested in global healthcare, it is important to me to learn about international health disparities through firsthand experience. I want to build cross-cultural connections and be able to apply what I learn abroad to serve my local communities at home.

I will be devoting 15 days and a large chunk of my summer internship earnings to this exciting and educational trip, but I still need your help reaching my fundraising goal! A donation from you will support the creation of a successful mobile clinic in which volunteers will conduct public health surveys, take vitals, work in the pharmacy, and teach classes (all under expert supervision of course). Please know that even a small donation of $5 is greatly appreciated and helps me get closer to my goal! Thank you :)

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the VAW at Bronx chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Cambodia this upcoming Winter! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW at Bronx will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Cambodia.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2017, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2018. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of September 24-28.
