University of South Carolina Medical Outreach trip to Vietnam, May 2020

Joseph's Message

Hello! My name is Joseph Ebai and I am a sophomore at the University of South Carolina. For the summer, I am travelling with other fellow members of VAW to Vietnam for two weeks. In those two weeks, I will be staying in the town of Can Tho volunteering in a health care clinic where I will learn how to do vital signs, triage patients, conduct public health surveys, shadow the local doctors, and even go as far as diagnosing some of them.
I am so glad that this opportunity to serve others has shown itself to me and I want to take advantage of this opportunity to gauge whether medicine is a practical career for me or not. It is my hope that with your donations, I will be able to pay off the costs of the trip by early March and embark on a life-changing trip, not just for myself, but for all of the patients' lives that I will soon touch.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of South Carolina chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Vietnam this upcoming summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at USC will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Vietnam.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of February 3-7, 2020
