Texas A&M University Medical Team A Internship to Peru, June 2025

Jo's Message

As a freshman at Texas A&M University studying Poultry science, my passion for healthcare and helping others drives everything I do. This summer, I’ll be volunteering in Peru on a medical internship, an opportunity to immerse myself in a community where care and connection make a tangible difference. My journey toward becoming a nurse is fueled by a deep belief that compassion and knowledge can transform lives. By working alongside medical professionals in Peru, I hope to grow in both skill and understanding, equipping myself to one day provide the kind of care that empowers others to thrive.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Texas A&M University Team A chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship in Peru this upcoming Summer 2025! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW Global at Texas A&M University Team A will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that makes our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
