UMKC Dental Internship to Vietnam, August 2025

Evellyn's Message

Evellyn Kline, a junior majoring in biological sciences at the University of Missouri, is seeking support for her upcoming internship with VAW Mizzou, a dental study abroad program in Vietnam from August 5-19th. This opportunity allows interns to work alongside local healthcare professionals, implementing dental clinics in low-income countries. Throughout the year, Evellyn will participate in training sessions, community service projects, and team-building activities to prepare for the experience. The internship includes orientations and workshops focused on professional development and cultural sensitivity, along with practical clinical skills training. This intensive program is beneficial for future dental and healthcare professionals interested in global health and community support.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join UMKC on their Dental Outreach Internship to Vietnam this Summer! interns will have the opportunity to learn about various dental procedures, such as cleanings, restorations, fillings, and extractions, learn about the current healthcare system in Vietnam and teach a public health class and much more! VAW Global at UMKC will be opening up mobile dental clinics for local communities during their time in Vietnam.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing full dental clinics and primary care medical clinics to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our dental mobile clinics unique is that we are able to perform multiple procedures including fillings, restorations, cleanings and extractions at the mobile clinic. Fundraising for supplies and medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
