Ohio State University Medical Internship to Guatemala, July 2025

Anna's Message

Hi! My name is Annabelle Oscar and I am a first year undergraduate student studying Neuroscience at The Ohio State University. In pursuit of hands-on experience and clinical hours, I am so grateful to have been selected for a medical internship with Volunteers Across the World (VAW). This summer I will spend 2 weeks in Guatemala shadowing doctors, assisting patients (using my Spanish!), and helping bring much needed medical access to this part of the world. While my family is funding part of my trip, I am hoping to fundraise a portion of the expenses and also to help fund supplies, equipment, and medicine we will be providing. I’m super excited about this opportunity to learn and to help; and I appreciate your support of our cause! Every little bit will be put to good use. Thank you!

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Ohio State University chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Guatemala this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW Global at Ohio State University will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Guatemala.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
