Passionate About:

Out of all the many things I am incredibly passionate about, service is by far one of my favorites. Global Brigades is perfect for me because it combines my love for travel with my interest in other languages, cultures, and service opportunities. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the founding group at the University of Utah last year, and traveled to Guaricayan, Honduras to serve the people of a rural village in their business endeavors. This year, I plan on attending another service opportunity in Panama. I feel as though this area is my niche in that, I am able to use my background in Spanish speaking, business, and interpersonal relations to really help people in a more sustainable way. I could never describe what these experiences mean to me, how they have enhanced my education, and how much I feel that I have been able to give back to these communities in need.

About Us

University of Utah is a chapter of Global Business Brigades, an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. We work alongside promising entrepreneurs and experienced year-round staff to create financial opportunities in remote, rural, and under resourced areas of Honduras and Ghana. We work with communities to build community-owned banks to provide access to loans, savings accounts and financial literacy for community members. Volunteers assist in consulting micro-enterprises, assessing loan capacity payments and providing financial literacy workshops to families. nnIn conjunction with our Business Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
