Passionate About:

I am very passionate about Global Medical Brigades and the work that we do. We will be setting up a free health clinic in the extremely impoverished communities of Honduras where there is no access to health care. Being able to have this health care experience in my undergrad as a Physician Assistant major is not only extremely educational but it is also truly rewarding and makes me so much more passionate and excited about my education and my future. This brigade to Honduras will be my second brigade and I'm beyond excited to be going as well as planning the brigade.

Philadelphia University Medical Brigades Honduras May 2016

Sara's Message

On our 7 day brigade to Honduras we will be setting up a free health clinic for the members of the impoverished communities. At this health clinic the patients will get to see a physician and a dentist and will also receive medications, vitamins, and hygiene supplies that they need. We will also be working on public health education while we are there. We are fundraising for our individual trips as well as all of the medications that the patients will be receiving. Any donation is truly appreciated.

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
