Hello!

My name is Sara Cate and I am currently fundraising to create a scholarship for UC Berkeley students interested in traveling to Nicaragua over their spring break. The project in Nicaragua focuses on experiential learning within a large range of topics such as social justice, environmental activism, and community organizing (both at the local and international level). While in Nicaragua students will help build and maintain school gardens that provide local children with the essential vegetables and fruits that add diversity to their diet. In addition, students will also participate in community workshops put on by local organizers concerned with organic farming. The beauty of this project is that the gardens and workshops not only teach UC students, but also act as models for sustainable agriculture in an area decimated by industrial farming.
