Running for Creative Expression

Supporters of Cafe Cultura ran in the Colfax Marathon May 18 & 19, 2013 to fundraise for our increased work in the community...specifically to conduct more spoken word workshops for youth.

Café Cultura promotes unity and healing among Indigenous peoples through creative expression while empowering youth to find their voice, reclaim oral and written traditions, and become leaders in their communities. We organize an award-winning monthly open mic night, conduct spoken word/poetry workshops for youth, and perform at community events throughout the state. We showcase the work of Chicana/o, Native American, Latina/o and other underserved communities while providing a safe space for young people from throughout the city to speak their truths, build community, and learn about issues affecting our communities.

Help fund our workshops and support young people in telling their stories! A $5 donation would pay for a youth’s participation in one of our basic workshops. $30 would provide an opportunity for a young person to participate in our advanced/intensive workshop series. $100 provides a workshop for 20 or more youth in need of a creative outlet.
