Passionate About:

“If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace” - Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Hello! I am about to embark on my second mission trip with the University of Toledo chapter of Global Medical Brigades. I was privileged enough last year to go to Nicaragua and experience a life changing week working with amazing individuals. This upcoming mission trip to Honduras is about giving back to a world that has given so much privilege and opportunities to me throughout my life. As an American citizen, I am spoiled beyond belief to have the ability to go to the doctor whenever I get sick, to have glasses to see better with, as well as having the ability to go to a dentist routinely. These privileges that I have are not guarantees around the world and sometimes afterthoughts to concerns and worries that I cannot possibly imagine.

This mission trip is an opportunity to work alongside and with some of the most gracious, kind, and optimistic individuals I have encountered in life. This mission trip is an opportunity to give back to a world that has given me so much. It is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in and on this world. It is an opportunity to show that we are best as a people when we work to make the world a better place through peace, love, and compassion, instead of turning back the clock through hate, vitriol, and cynicism.
I graciously ask for any and all financial help that you can offer me in order to make this trip possibly. Thank you in advance for any and all that you can give.

University of Toledo Medical Brigade March 2018 Nicaragua

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
