Fundraising Campaign Description

End Date: Jun 11, 2013 12:00 AM

Earlier this spring, the Northwestern University Architecture Brigades chapter came to Nicaragua to help construct a home for a family in the community of Las Lomas. Fatima and Bismarck's family of 5 were living in an adobe and mud house, where bugs carrying chagas disease were present. Now, they are proud owners of a 4-room concrete, wood, and chagas-free home, complete with a tin roof and proper windows and doors. Check out the pictures and the awesome construction job this small group of 7 completed alongside a very compassionate group of community members and neighbors in a mere 5 days: http://globalbrigades.smugmug.com/Architecture/Northwestern-Architecture/28758889_B6nsnZ#!i=2442145938&k=Qd2FRCZ.

So far, we have $2181 in total funds that the Northwestern chapter has donated through the McCormick School of Engineering towards the $4500 it cost to construct Fatima and Bismarck's home. But now we need your help! As a student-led and student-funded organization, Global Brigades needs YOUR HELP to fundraise the remaining $2319 to cover the building costs and construction materials used this spring.

Help us by donating towards:

- $8 donation = 1 bag of concrete mix used to make the foundation and floors of the house (50 bags of concrete)
- $33 donation = 1 concrete slab used to construct the walls of the house (40 concrete slabs)
- any amount towards $600 remaining needed to pay for the roofing structure

Please support Global Brigades Nicaragua and the Northwestern Architecture chapter's amazing work accomplished thus far on this project! With your support, we can continue to help raise families - like Fatima and Bismark's family - out of poverty.
