Maryland WAVES Corps

  • About
WAVES for Development believes surf tourism can benefit the communities where it happens.

We believe development work is best done when the ideas come from, and are implemented by, the community.

Since 2007 WAVES has been working closely with the community of Lobitos, Peru to assist in developing Environmental, Social and Entrepreneurial programs.

Feel free to contact WAVES for more information on our programs or details about traveling to Peru.

WAVES Corps Peru Construction Service Trip

Fundraising Campaign Description
We are forming a student group called a WAVES Corps at University of Maryland that is taking a trip to Peru to assist in the construction of a community surf center.

The center is part of WAVES for Development, a US, Swiss and Peru based 501c3. Learn more about WAVES at the website www.wavesfordevelopment.org

The center will house WAVES' surf retail location which employs local youth, a business incubation program, a food service training program and provide a meeting area for the community.

The building is being built utilizing earthbag construction, a sustainable, safe, and cost effective method of building. Part of the construction process will be to teach locals how to build with earthbags to improve their own living structures.

Thank you for considering donating to our trip so we can actively experience development work in the 3rd world!
