Passionate About:

I am passionate about many things, but volunteering, for me, has always been something that I wanted to make a bigger part my life. I am currently working on my undergraduate degree in MCD Biology and hope to pursue a career in the medical field. I have wanted to become a doctor since I was a child and plan to carry out that goal.
It's apparent how important the health care system in this country, but in many places like Panama and other South American counties, the health care does not extend to rural areas. I feel that it is important not to only help these underdeveloped areas attain healthcare but to help them learn and sustain the overall the health of the people that live in these areas.

June 2011 UCSC Medical Brigades

Volunteer Activity Description

Medical Brigade volunteers set up medical clinics in pre-identified communities to provide healthcare where access is limited. Each community receives a brigade every 3-4 months and between brigades the in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and conducts community health worker trainings to empower local leaders to perpetuate a consistent level of healthcare.
