University of Alabama Nursing Kambia Programs

Global Brigades is a US 501c3 nonprofit recognized for its international health and sustainable development work abroad. Through an evidence-based model, we work alongside local staff and community members to build projects that tangibly improve lives in Honduras, Panama, Ghana and Greece. Kambia is transforming global education by enhancing university and college curriculums. Our programs present students with a community challenge and use experts on the ground to analyze and problem solve over the course of a semester whether that is virtual or in-person. Our on the ground staff trains and empowers local community leaders in the formation of (depending on the program Medical Class, CHEs. Public Health, Basic Sanitation Committee, etc) The Basic Sanitation Committee is responsible for carrying out in-home assessments and monitoring the status of the projects. In conjunction with our Public Health Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. University of Alaska is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. University of Arkansas Public Health Brigades

University of Arkansas is a chapter of Global Public Health Brigades, an international movement of university students working to improve health conditions in the developing world. Through an evidence-based model, we work alongside local community members to build projects that tangibly improve lives in Honduras, Nicaragua and Ghana. Volunteers work with local masons and families to build eco-stoves, latrines, concrete floors, showers, and/or water storage units. To ensure long-term sustainability and maintenance, the Public Health program team trains and empowers local community leaders in the formation of a Basic Sanitation Committee. The Basic Sanitation Committee is responsible for carrying out in-home assessments and monitoring the status of the projects. In conjunction with our Public Health Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. University of California Riverside is a chapter of Global Human Rights Brigades, an international movement of students and attorneys providing legal education and financial resources for vulnerable families to resolve legal challenges. We focus our work with women in remote, rural, and under resourced communities who would otherwise have limited to no access to legal resources. Volunteers facilitate legal clinics with lawyers to provide pro-bono consulting and the financial resources for community members to help resolve cases. nnIn conjunction with our Human Rights Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development, clean water and sanitation projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. University of Central Florida Engineering

Global Brigades offers 7-day Engineering Brigades throughout the year in Honduras. Engineering Brigades volunteers work with local engineers, technicians and community members to assess water problems and select feasible solutions. During the brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to assess potential water sources, map and survey community land, plan and design water projects, and provide technical follow-up on completed systems. Evenings consist of on-brigade education, where brigaders learn about community and project development, water sources, water system design and materials, data analysis, and project proposals. Volunteers will directly apply these engineering concepts during the brigade and have the opportunity to present summaries of their findings to the community. Construction of the water projects is a result of the collaboration between the Engineering and Water Brigades teams, Water Brigades volunteers, and community members. Together, Engineering and Water Brigades establish sustainable water systems, provide community education on water-related health issues, and empower community leaders to maintain the system. Between brigades, Global Brigades in-country staff maintains relationships with community leadership committees and provides follow-up with water systems.

University of Colorado Colorado Springs Business Kambia Programs

University of Colorado Colorado Springs is a chapter of Global Business Brigades, an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. We work alongside promising entrepreneurs and experienced year-round staff to create financial opportunities in remote, rural, and under resourced areas of Honduras and Ghana. We work with communities to build community-owned banks to provide access to loans, savings accounts and financial literacy for community members. Volunteers assist in consulting micro-enterprises, assessing loan capacity payments and providing financial literacy workshops to families. In conjunction with our Business Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals.
