Patient Referrals: Nicaragua

This chapter has been established to work with patients who arrive at our mobile clinics and require medical attention outside the capacity of our medical brigades. The chapter enables students to further work with patients outside the scope of the clinic, in a multitude of fashions. Whether it be bringing the patient to Global Brigade's attention, or working with individuals to fund their future medical care. This chapter empowers the medical brigades to remain sustainable and facilitates the continued necessary medical attention to those individuals who require it.

Penn State University Nursing Kambia Programs

Global Brigades is a US 501c3 nonprofit recognized for its international health and sustainable development work abroad. Through an evidence-based model, we work alongside local staff and community members to build projects that tangibly improve lives in Honduras, Panama, Ghana and Greece. Kambia is transforming global education by enhancing university and college curriculums. Our programs present students with a community challenge and use experts on the ground to analyze and problem solve over the course of a semester whether that is virtual or in-person. Our on the ground staff trains and empowers local community leaders in the formation of (depending on the program Medical Class, CHEs. Public Health, Basic Sanitation Committee, etc) The Basic Sanitation Committee is responsible for carrying out in-home assessments and monitoring the status of the projects. In conjunction with our Public Health Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Public Health Brigades with Pennsylvania is a discipline of Global Brigades, the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. The Pennsylvnia chapter systematically works with more than 300 other university groups around the world to deliver and implement one of nine skill-based programs that benefit more than 130,000 Honduran, Panamanian, and Ghanaian community members annually. Public Health Brigades is a program within Global Brigades. Public Health Brigades empowers rural Honduran communities to prevent common illnesses through in-home infrastructural development, community leader training, and health education.

Professional Medline Brigades

Medline Brigades is a chapter of Global Business Brigades, an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. We work alongside promising entrepreneurs and experienced year-round staff to create financial opportunities in remote, rural, and under resourced areas of Honduras and Ghana. We work with communities to build community-owned banks to provide access to loans, savings accounts and financial literacy for community members. Volunteers assist in consulting micro-enterprises, assessing loan capacity payments and providing financial literacy workshops to families. In conjunction with our Business Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals.
