As an intern for Global Brigades this summer, I will be able to combine my academic goals with my desire to better understand societal advancement that approaches equality so that the work we do has a lasting impact. As an aspiring public health professional, I believe that it is imperative that I understand the role of public health in underdeveloped communities (domestic and international) and learn more about the work of non-profits in such sustainability. Wherever I go, I will have to overcome obstacles including cultural differences, language barriers, and a short time span to make my time and efforts worthwhile, hurdles I know that are not limited to GB brigades.
