Rutgers Medical and Dental Brigade May 2012

Christina's Message

Hi everyone! Please help me reach my goal for the Honduras Medical Brigade! Below is a description of how the Medical Brigade I am a part of will help a community in Honduras. Helping others that are less fortunate is important, and it is what makes the world go 'round! This brigade will help a community in Honduras receive medical and dental attention. These people either have never had medical/dental care before, may have had this care before but are rarely able to afford it, or they possibly may have never even have had the chance to access it. Medical and dental health care is a privilege that most of us have, and a donation to this community in Honduras will help expose as many people as possible to medical and dental care... free of charge!

Any donation to reach my goal of $1,350.00 is a huge help!!

I will be going to this community to help aide the Medical Brigade, so I will post some pictures of the people of Honduras that your donations are directly helping. I will be going on May 21st and will be back by the end of May, so you can come back to this page then and check out how your contributions have helped!

All you have to do is:
1) Click the "Donate" button to the right of this screen
2) A new page will come up, just make sure you click "Make a donation on behalf of a volunteer" and highlight my name - Christina Kmiecik! Then please kindly fill out how much you would like to donate!
This website is very secure so do not worry, the donations go through paypal/google checkout. I have already used it myself!

Thank you and the community in Honduras thanks you too! :)

Love,
Christina Kmiecik<3

Volunteer Activity Description

Volunteers on Medical and Dental Brigades work closely together with licensed medical and dental professionals to provide quality health initiatives to a community that otherwise has limited access to health care. Volunteers spend three days in a community in order to optimize the amount of time patients are able to spend with the physicians and dentists. Each patient receives a physician consultation, public health talk, and prescribed medicines as well as have access to PAP smears, prostate exams and restorative dental care as necessary. Children, in addition, receive teeth cleaning, a fluoride treatment, and vitamins necessary for proper growth and development. Volunteers have the opportunity to take patient vitals, obtain patient history and current symptoms, shadow and assist licensed physicians and dentists, participate in preventative education, and fill prescriptions under a licensed pharmacist. Volunteers will become familiar with the prevalent health issues in their community and learn about how to prevent and treat those illnesses. These brigades provide each volunteer with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a specific community while gaining real life experience in the field of international medicine and dentistry.
