Ben's Message

Hi everyone,
I am excited to share that I have been selected to join the University of Boston Dental Brigade on a mission to provide urgent dental care to underserved communities.
Many of the people we will treat have no access to basic dental hygiene or extractions, which can lead to severe health complications. My goal is to raise money to cover the costs of medical supplies, clinic setup, and travel for this mission.
By donating, you are directly helping us provide:
Emergency extractions to stop chronic pain.
Preventative cleanings and fluoride treatments for children.
Public health education to ensure long-term dental hygiene.
Most of us take a simple trip to the dentist for granted, but for the community I’ll be visiting with the University of Boston Dental Brigade, it’s a luxury they often go a lifetime without.
I’ve set a goal to raise $2,600 to participate in this upcoming dental mission. This isn't just a trip; it’s a chance to provide relief from pain and prevent infections for hundreds of families.
I’m putting in the work to prepare for this mission, and I would be so grateful if you could support me. Whether it’s $10 or $100, every dollar goes directly toward the supplies and logistics needed to run our mobile clinic.
Thank you for helping me bring a smile—and a healthier future—to those who need it most!
Warmly,
Ben Makosiej

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Dental Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Ghana. Dental Brigade volunteers have the opportunity to shadow licensed dentists in urgent and preventive dental services in communities with limited access to healthcare. Dental Brigades also focuses on prevention with dental hygiene workshops. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. A typical brigade structure includes three clinic days and a Holistic Model Day. This unique day allows for Medical/Dental brigaders to experience one of Honduras’ other programs: Architecture, Business, Engineering, Microfinance, Public Health or Water Brigades. Through these Holistic Model Days, volunteers are able to tackle non-health related issues that are often times the root cause of common illnesses seen on Medical and Dental Brigades. The main health concerns in our communities include diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, waterborne illnesses and abdominal pain.
