Fundraising Campaign Description:
Dear Family, Friends & Associates,
As many of you may know I am off to Mozambique in January 2012 to lead painting classes in 2 different schools in the Inhambane province.
I will be working with APTA - Awareness & Prevention Through Art, a grass roots organisation started by artists and activists to address the HIV and AIDS epidemic affecting Mozambique. APTA’s mission is to use arts and arts education to promote awareness of HIV and AIDS among Mozambican youth. Teaching will consist of painting, photography, woodwork and ceramics, creating a fun and exciting environment to encourage interest, whilst breaking down taboos at the youngest possible age.
Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 70% of new HIV infections in 2010. Currently, Mozambique ranks fifth in the world for people living with HIV and AIDS. The impact on Mozambican communities is severe and pervasive, but is not often publicly addressed or discussed. Through art we aim to address the impact of the illness at both the individual and community level.
At present limited funding for this project is coming from our own pockets until major sources of funding are secured in 2012. We currently need financial assistance to provide art materials, set up costs, transport fees and daily running expenses to make this project possible. We are going to raise £4500 to cover the initial start up period.
I firmly believe that this project can be a catalyst for reducing Mozambique's HIV and AIDS epidemic and I am appealing to you to support this cause. Any contribution whether great or small will make a difference in making this project happen. WE NEED YOUR HELP.
