Hello friends and family!

This spring, I have the unique opportunity of traveling to Takure, Nepal with an organization called Conscious Impact. Takure is a rural village located in Sindhupalchok, one of the worst hit regions by the devastating 2015 earthquakes. Conscious Impact has been working in Takure since August 2015 to support sustainable, long-term rebuilding in this area where 98% of all homes and buildings were completely destroyed.

Conscious Impact has created a resource center for rural Nepal families to learn about natural building options and to offer access to affordable and locally available building materials. The natural building technique focused on is Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEBs), a technology developed by Auroville Earth Institute and is used in over 80 countries including earthquake prone areas, and are made using a manual lever brick press.

Last year with the support of donors and volunteers, Conscious Impact and the community of Takure made more than 20,000 earth bricks which were used to rebuild a local primary school that was destroyed in the earthquakes. As a volunteer, I will be helping to make earth blocks for the reconstruction of homes! You can read more about Conscious Impact's work at http://www.consciousimpact.org/ourwork/.
