MLK day of Service 2012-Sobrante Elementary School

Madison Middle School, in conjunction with a broad coalition of supporters in the Sobrante Park neighborhood of Oakland, CA, is excited to announce the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service taking place on Monday, January 16, 2012.

In keeping with the legacy of Dr. King, the Sobrante Park collaborative is recruiting members of the Oakland community to help complete a number of service projects on January 16, 2012. The opening ceremony will commence at 8:30am, at Sobrante Park Elementary, located at 470 El Paseo Drive in Oakland, CA where Volunteers will be directed to neighborhood sites to begin service projects.

Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, give back to our community, and honor local heroes and heroines.

Service projects will include building school gardens, painting murals, and community clean-up. Volunteers will also be assisting the elderly/senior housing facilities with residential projects.

Festivities will conclude at Madison Middle School with lunch, a special presentation of heroes, and closing remarks. Sponsors include Mayor Jean Quan, Higher Ground, Safe Passages, Bay Area Community Resources, Time Banking, Home Depot, and Alameda County Public Health.
