AMSA Medical Brigades

American Medical Student Association is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. In conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Appalachian State University Business Brigades

Appalachian State University is a chapter of Global Business Brigades, an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. We work alongside promising entrepreneurs and experienced year-round staff to create financial opportunities in remote, rural, and under resourced areas of Honduras and Ghana. We work with communities to build community-owned banks to provide access to loans, savings accounts and financial literacy for community members. Volunteers assist in consulting micro-enterprises, assessing loan capacity payments and providing financial literacy workshops to families. In conjunction with our Business Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Architecture Brigades at Arapahoe Community College

Architecture Brigade volunteers design and construct schools for communities through a 7 day Architecture Brigade in Honduras. Once a University Chapter expresses their interest, they will be provided with a brief on an upcoming design contest. Chapters than have a limited time to submit their school design into a contest against other university chapters. The community then selects the design(s) that best fit their needs. For the construction of the school, all participating chapters, along with any chapters that just want to construct and not design, come together to help build. Student volunteers can get involved with an upcoming Architecture Brigade by joining a local student chapter on their college campus or creating a new chapter and recruiting a group of students. Architecture Brigades, a program within Global Brigades, collaborates with rural communities in Honduras to alleviate needs in health ad education infrastructure through design and hands-on construction projects.

Architecture Brigades at Architectural Association School of Architecture

Architecture Brigades is a volunteer program of Global Brigades, the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. The Architectural Association chapter systematically works with more than 300 other university groups around the world to deliver and implement one of nine skill-based programs that benefit more than 130,000 Honduran and Panamanian community members annually. Architecture Brigade volunteers design and construct schools for communities through 7-10 day Architecture Brigades in Honduras. University Chapters can participate in a design competition to help draft a design for the construction for the school or just join with other University Chapters to help build the design that was selected in Honduras.

Architecture Brigades at Arizona State University is a chapter of Global Brigades, the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. The ASU chapter systematically works with more than 300 other university groups around the world to deliver and implement one of nine skill-based programs that benefit more than 130,000 Honduran and Panamanian community members annually. Global Architecture Brigades (GAB) designs and constructs socially responsible and sustainable architecture solutions in developing nations. A think tank design approach that utilizes extensive community dialogue and independent research to create efficient, appropriate, and elegant structures to be embraced and utilized by those for whom they were built.

Global Brigades USA is the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Our mission is to empower volunteers to facilitate sustainable solutions in under resourced communities while fostering local cultures. Since 2005, more than 5,000 volunteers from 110 university groups have traveled to implement our nine skill-based programs to benefit more than 100,000 Honduran and Panamanian community members.

Architecture Brigades at Brown University

The Architecture Program strives to improve in-home infrastructure and economic production in Global Brigades’ communities by designing and constructing small scale or in-home projects such as chicken coops, roofs, and additional rooms that will enhance community members’ health, quality-of-life and income. By improving their homes, community members can better prevent disease and maintain a positive mental state. Similarly, families choosing to build infrastructure for economic ventures that can generate more income, which could theoretically be used to independently enhance their living space. These important projects are both designed and built by student volunteers in collaboration with community members on 7 days trips to Honduras. Students volunteering on Architecture Brigades participate in either infrastructure design or constructions. On the initial Design Brigade, they consult with community members and draft blueprints for the in-home infrastructure or small-scale economic development projects sought by the family. On subsequent Build Brigades, students construct the projects alongside skilled Honduran masons and community members and ultimately create the in-home infrastructure needed to improve health, quality-of-life, and income. Student volunteers teach community members the construction techniques necessary to maintain the projects and ensure that they will continue to serve local families well into the future.

The Cal Poly SLO chapter systematically works with more than 300 other university groups around the world to deliver and implement one of nine skill-based programs that benefit more than 130,000 Honduran and Panamanian community members annually. Architecture Brigades, a program within Global Brigades, designs and constructs socially responsible and sustainable architecture solutions in developing nations. Architecture Brigades has developed a think tank design approach that involves extensive community dialogue and independent research. This collaborative effort results in the creation of efficient, appropriate, and elegant structures to be embraced and utilized by those for whom they were built.
