Volunteer Activity Description

Start Date: May 5, 2016 12:00 AM
End Date: May 11, 2016 12:00 AM

Global Brigades is a fantastic opportunity for pre-health students, or anyone interested in pursuing a career in the health field. Our Medical Brigades offer leaders the role to mobilize peers, to travel abroad, and to gain practical medical experience in rural communities in Central America. Our one-week Medical Brigades allows students the opportunity to shadow local Honduran, Nicaraguan or Panamanian doctors, work in the pharmacies, perform triage — all aspects of a mobile medical clinic. The experience is invaluable for both personal and professional growth. Additionally, brigades serve as great topics for medical school application essays and as résumé items for volunteers' professional development.

Medical Brigade volunteers travel to Central America to participate in a one-week* medical clinic in remote communities that lack basic healthcare. Global Medical Brigades allows volunteers to perform and participate in the various activities of the mobile medical clinic. This includes helping triage and take vital signs, shadowing licensed doctors and professionals in consultations, working in the pharmacy to fill the medicines that the doctors prescribed, and facilitating health education workshops. Volunteers with all levels of experience and skills are welcome and encouraged to participate in our Medical Brigades.
