Fund-Raise the Roof

Global Architecture Brigades (GAB) is making great progress on both the Secondary School in Santa Rosa and the Clinic in El Canton!

Santa Rosas kids can’t wait for this school that is 80% completed! We are hoping to finish it by the end of 2012 with the December brigades, though our carpenters are currently working on the roof structure of the third classroom. Further construction will then begin on the roof structure of the kitchen and the library/bathroom block.

Even though the wood used to support the roof is already on-site, we cannot start working without funds for the roof covering. Leaving a half-finished roof structure out in the rainy season is generally not a good idea!

Since most GAB volunteers will be attending school throughout the Fall season, everyone can help out from home. Our current challenge to overcome is simply acquiring all of the project materials in order to move forward with construction.

Unfortunately during the coming months, these communities face the prospect of having their projects come to a halt due to the lack of materials. As community members worked side-by-side with volunteers in the last few months on these projects, they are eager to get back to work as soon as possible!

Still, there is only so much work they can do without materials. We need your support! Any amount of donation at all goes a long way in helping out and every cent of it goes directly towards these projects.

In Honduras metal roofing costs $0.67 per square foot.

This is the difference your donation can make:
1. 9th Grade Classroom= 1080 ft2
1080 x $0.67 = $723.60

2. Outdoor Covered Community Space = 720 ft2
720 x $0.67= $482.40

3. Kitchen = 720 ft2
720 x $0.67= $482.40

4. Library, computer lab and bathroom block = 1120 ft2
1120 x $0.67= $750.40

TOTAL TO FINISH THE ROOF ON THE SCHOOL IN SANTA ROSA = $2,438.80
