This internship focuses on building relationships with the local citizens to create strategies that will help to diminish poverty in the Western Lutzville region, near Cape Town. My teammates, consisting of other American students and local community members, and I will formulate ideas on how to improve the quality of life in this area. In order to accomplish this, my team and I will research, develop, and prototype small business ideas, creating opportunities for the villagers to grow and thrive.

As I leave the country for the first time, I hope to not only learn how to work on teams with individuals from diverse backgrounds, but I also hope to gain an understanding of the growing importance of international business.

I have always had a passion for serving communities in rural areas. Ever since my experience from high school in Allendale, Louisiana, where I worked with other students to help rebuild the lives and homes of the local citizens, I have sought an opportunity that will again allow me to use my skills to give back to the community. My internship in South Africa will allow me to follow my keen interest that lies in applying my education to aid communities in underprivileged environments. At the same time, I will gain team building and analytical skills that will be with me for the rest of my life.
