Over May 27th-July 3rd I will be traveling to Honduras alongside a fellow 4th year pharmacy student as an Intern with Global Brigades. As interns with Global Brigades, we will be working with the Medical Brigade. The mission of Medical Brigades is to work with licensed medical professionals and community health workers to provide comprehensive health services in rural communities with limited access to healthcare. As a student pharmacist, my role will be the following:

1) Assist the pharmacist by leading student volunteers to accurately catalog and categorize medications for a brigade

2) Supervise volunteers in the labeling and prepackaging of medications used on brigade.

3) Conduct inventory to assure all necessary medications and equipment are loaded for transport.

4) Support pharmacist in answering drug information questions from physicians and student volunteers. Oversee the filing of medication orders by student volunteers under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.

5) Provide direct patient care in the form of gathering patient's past medical and medication history, measurement of vitals, conduct glucometer finger sticks and shadow physicians during patient visits.

I am very excited for this opportunity to travel to Honduras for a longer period of time. I look forward to working with Global Brigades and the many undergraduate students I will meet. I hope that with this experience I will be able to strengthen the skills necessary in order to be a great healthcare provider.
