Passionate About:

My name is Alexis Grace and I am a sophomore here at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). I am a first generation student studying Pre:Medicine | Forensics Biology. I am currently a member of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) as well as a member of the university TRIO program. I am also a member of the BGSU chapter of Global Medical Brigades (GMB). The goals in which I have set for my self are as such: Within the year of 2017-2018 I plan to travel to the country of Panama with GMB to practice medicine for a week on the citizens who do not have access to medical resources. I will be giving back to a community who has little to nothing when it comes to resources involving the health of the civilians. I also plan to continue onto medical school at Brody School of Medicine after my undergraduate years so that I may study to be an Emergency Room Surgeon. In the long run I hope to one day have the financial resources to open a free medical clinic for those who do not have healthcare and are very underrepresented in their community. Growing up as a child I have only ever wanted to be a doctor and help others less fortunate than me and that is why I have set these goals for myself.

About Us

Bowling Green State University is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. nnIn conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
